Sapphire - Yellow and Green
Yellow Sapphires come from Sri Lanka (formerly known as Ceylon), Africa, and Madagascar. Other countries such as Australia, Thailand and Burma do produce some yellow sapphires, but, in most cases, with heavy secondary color tones. Yellow Sapphires are regarded as bearers of good fortune and believed to bring their owners success in their daily dealings. Green Sapphires usually have a color range of light lime green to a dark olive green tone and are mostly from Africa, Thailand and Australia with some new deposits being mined in Madagascar as well. Green Sapphire can have significant secondary colors mixed in such as yellow and blue and it is quite hard to find a "pure" green hue. Color saturation does not play much of a role in the pricing of these stones. Normally, the lighter brighter green sapphires are more valued, as they show better light and color reflection over darker, more intense but less lively Green Sapphires. |
